The Big Agency is a classroom-based Level 5 (2nd Year) unit for students studying in the Department of Marketing, Operations and Digital Business at MMU Business School, led by Dr Bex Lewis. It seeks to offer the experience of working in an agency, whether advertising/branding, integrated marketing, PR, digital or third sector, but based within the classroom. For the first time in 2016/17 we want students to be working upon real projects offered by agencies and organisations to reach their learning objectives, so please help us by providing projects, resources and friendly encouragement and support.
Students will undertake three hours per week within the classroom working upon these projects, in facilitator-led sessions, combined with independent working. The projects will run between October and March, and should be designed to offer the real everyday experiences of working upon a single marketing project – content, strategy or consumer led – the kind of projects that they could expect to encounter in the workplace upon graduation.
Similarly to the sister-unit Agency Life, students will be assessed on their professionalism as practitioners as well as on the things they produce as assessment material. Employers providing projects are encouraged to provide ongoing interaction with students via online methods (including email, Twitter, and/or Skype), and to offer feedback to lecturers.
