Come and join us for a glass of wine and a nibble, and find out how you can give a home to an Agency Life student, or provide a project for The Big Agency students.
We’re rolling out V4.0 of our exciting programme for Level 5 students this September (2016) and we would very much appreciate your input.
Who should come?
Anyone who wants to engage with students and give them a chance to experience ‘real-world’ work, either in the classroom, or in your workplace. This includes agency heads and managers, company directors, managers of client-side comms departments from public, private or third sector.
What’s it about?
Agency Life is a Level 5 2nd Year unit for students studying in the Department of Marketing, Operations and Digital Business at MMU Business School. This unit is designed to introduce undergraduates to the experience of working in a busy advertising, marketing, PR or digital agency, or department within a large organisation, as part of a structured programme of learning. The sister unit, The Big Agency, seeks to replicate this experience in the classroom, and we are seeking projects in these areas too.
Students spend 2 terms working with a real organisation or project team and are exposed to the real everyday experiences of operating in a busy environment. They will be assessed on their professionalism as practitioners as well as on the things they produce in the workplace, or towards real-world projects.
Students are expected to spend about a day per week working within an agency or comms department environment, or will spend September-March working with a mentor in classroom-based projects.
Final grades are determined by a combination of employer and tutor assessment. Employer involvement in the assessment of the agency experience element constitutes a large proportion of the grades.
Students come out of these programmes with the confidence to face employment knowing they have real work experience – this sets them up for 3rd year placements, internships and graduate roles after their final year with a real understanding and expectation of real working life.
We’d like to talk to you more about becoming an Agency Life host employer, and/or providing a project for The Big Agency students to work on. Naturally we can’t come and see every single company because time won’t let us – but come to this event and find out more, sign up to our register of firms and meet some of the other companies and organisations who have already committed to providing the kind of experience you demand from graduates. You’ll meet our Head of Department and the delivery team leaders: Sarah Penney (Agency Life) and Dr Bex Lewis (The Big Agency).
We’ll be able to answer lots of specific questions, give advice, let you see some of the successes of the pilot programme (and tell you where the problems were), and hopefully get you to sign up to this exciting adventure.
